Just a note to all you who have asked about teaching jobs in PA. Our school district (Selinsgrove in Snyder County) will be going to full day Kindergarten next year. I believe this means they will have to hire between 5 and 10 more Kindergarten teachers.

Also, the other school district in Snyder County (Midd-West) usually follows what Selinsgrove does, so look for them to go to full day Kindergarten soon also, increasing their need for teachers.

There may be some shuffling of teachers (higher elementary grades going back to Kindergarten) so there may be some other teaching positions opening up too.

Selinsgrove's website is http://www.seal-pa.org. I wish the best to any of you who may wish to check this out.

What does the market look like for special education in your area? Are Chester and Bucks Counties good areas?

First of all, it's Dawne (like dawn only with a silent E).

As far as special education, we have small school districts in our area, about 200 students per grade. I wouldn't come to central PA looking for work in special education. I think you'd do better closer to the cities (Harrisburg, Philly, Pittsburgh).

And yes, Chester and Bucks Counties are very wealthy, close to Philly and would be much better for work in the special education field.

What was I thinking (or seeing) when I typed your name?

Sorry, Dawne. Hope you weren't offended.

Thanks for the feedback.

Oh, heavens, no, I wasn't offended at all! I guess the silent E throws people. I had a science teacher in 7th grade who called me Dwayne the first day. I corrected him and all was fine. I had the same science teacher again in 8th grade and guess what he called me the first day - yup, you guess it! Dwayne!! He wasn't joking, either. I've gotten it all my life, so I'm never offended. I just like to set the record straight before it gets carried away.

Have a great day!
