Looking to relocate to Pennsylvania from NYC (sooooo tired of city life).
1. Good Public School - Elementary, Middle and HS
2. Catholic Church
3. Quiet, No Crime, Nice People
4. Shortest Commuting to NYC 1 1/2 to 2 hrs
5. Decent Shopping Distance
6. Not too Expensive Homes
I hear Monroe County is a NO NO.

Any suggestions

You mention Monroe County...do you mean NEW YORK or NEW YORK CITY? There's a world of difference between the two.

You can find all these things in NYC, so I'm not sure what the problem really is, but maybe this is better off in the Pennsylvania board..

Monroe County in PA, I keep hearing from others to beware. I am currently in the Bronx, and just want a more peaceful existance. Yeah there are good schools here but you have to live near them or be able to pay for better. My 3 kids are in catholic school and it is costing me an arm and a leg. Both my husband and I work full time and its still not enough.

Scranton fits all of those qualifications.

I personally don't know much of PA just word of mouth, all I know its not like here in the city, home prices are good and public schools are better, but the word is Monroe county is slowly becoming what I am trying to get away from in respect to graffitti, crime, soon to be overcrowded and the school system is not as great as some other parts of PA, I may be wrong, again I PERSONALLY don't know. I also know catholic churches are scarce in PA and that is very Important to me, here in NYC you will have no problem finding a catholic church. I've only taken a short ride out to Monroe, Easton, and Allentown PA. That's why I have this post up to get some more insight. I assure you I'm not trying to offend just trying to do better for my kids then what I'm doing now.

Catholic churches are not scarce in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area. This area is almost entirely Catholic, as the main ethnic groups here are Irish, Italian, and Polish. Protestants are a very small minority in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Trust me, with the things you are looking for, Scranton or Wilkes-Barre is where you should be looking. Low crime, good schools, low cost of living, and very Catholic!
