Can anyone tell me about the Doylestown area. It looks like a nice, interesting little town, but how about the schools, lifestyle etc.

Any advice much appreciated.

Doylestown is a very good place to live. Educated population, nice downtown, Central Bucks schools are quite large but considered very good. Its a wealthy area with well-kept homes, businesses and churches. It is also one of the more expensive areas in Eastern PA.

I can actually tell you a lot about Doylestown since I have lived here most of my life (23 years) and I attended Central Bucks schools. Public Education here is excellent - the biggest issue is that an average student may feel like they are below average since education is so competetive in the school district. The town is charming, but has changed a bit since it was "discovered" (a lot more yuppies). It is a great place to raise a family, but housing has become quite expensive. I actually prefer Perkasie/ Sellersville area (about 20 minutes north) a little better since it reminds me of Doylestown twenty years ago. It is a little more affordable and has a friendly small town feel. I am not sure if you have any other specific questions, but I would be more than happy to answer them.

Perkasie/ Sellersville is in Pennridge School District. CB Schools are slightly better, but Pennridge Schools are also very good.

Central Bucks (including Perkasie/ Sellersville) area in general is a great place to raise a family. Towns are quaint and charming with a lot of beautiful farms and rolling hills surrounding them. Weather is nice - you get all four seasons, but not too much snow compared to the north and mid-west and the summers do not get too hot as comapred to the south. Crime is also very low. Biggest "crime" issue is probably drugs since there is so much money in the area. Teenagers get bored and decide drugs are the thing to do since they can afford to. You will see a lot of teenagers driving BMWs and Mercedes in Doylestown, Buckingham, Solebury and New Hope area. You don't see that as much in Perkasie and Sellersville area since it is still a quiet little town that hasn't been discovered yet.

Thanks PAMom, I'm going to take a trip out there to take a look. Thanks also for the additional tips on nearby towns as I noticed that the Doylestown area was pretty expensive. I like the idea of a town where you can walk around though, here I am stuck in suburbia and it is pretty boring.
