Would the area south of Pear Street and North of W Spruce Street be a good place to look at homes to rent or buy? Are there a lot of families with young children in that area? Neighborhood park in walking distance? Heavy traffic?

Yes, that's a nice area - close to the schools and Weis Markets, a major grocery store chain in this area. Pear Street is far enough from the college housing to not be a problem. I've seen a nice mix of families with kids and older people in the area.

I would recommend staying north of Mill Street and west of Market Street, and you should be fine as far as being away from college housing and flooding issues. Parts of Broad Street get a lot of surface water during heavy rain, but the schools are addressing that in their renovation projects and hopefully that will be a non-isse soon.

Thank you for your response Dawne. Selinsgrove is still our main area of interest.

I've been going through the PA forum everyday trying to learn more about Selinsgrove, and the different areas in PA just in case my husband can't transfer to the store in Selinsgrove and has to go to one of the other areas I listed in my first post.

Thanks again for the help. I'm sure I'll have many more questions to ask.

Anything new in Selinsgrove lately? For the most part.....are the people friendly/helpful in time of a neighbors need ? I think it would be a nice area to raise kids. Any comments I would appreciate.

As noted above, Selinsgrove is a university town, and it was wonderful to see the way the university students pitched in to help flood victims this past September. The flooding was devastating on the Isle of Que section of the borough and people really pulled together to help each other out.

I'm biased, of course, but I think this is a wonderful community.
