Hi and thank you for the time to answer my questions. I am looking to buy my first house and I have no idea where to start from.
I want to find something in Pensilvania that is:
1. not too big in size and is cheap (around 150K)
2. easily accesible from public transportation (train)
3. 2-3 hours from NYC (I am still gonna live in Brooklyn but my parents need a house)
4. Safe neighbourhood, good hospitals, I don't care about schools
5. I am hoping I don't have to spend a fortune on property taxes either.
Please if you know of a place that approaches those criteria please repspond.

This might stretch your budget, but I always thought Hershey, PA was cute. I'm not sure that $150k buys much there. The median is in the 200's somewhere. However, you can probably find something. It's not a huge place. They have excellent medical facilities there. Not sure about the public transport.

Allentown, PA's population is just over 100k. It has a very good hospital (Lehigh Valley). Crime rates/statistics seem a bit high than what I have seen when I visited, but if it is a concern you could live in a neighboring town. It's about 2 hours from NYC. Not sure about public transportation, I do know there is a small airport.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area of Northeast Pennsylvania might fit within your qualifications.
1. You shouldn't have any problem finding a good house for $150K (check out the local MLS sites for more info.

2. There is train service proposed, but for now there is bus service to and from NYC.
3. NEPA is approx. 2 1/2 hours to NYC.
4. There are many safe neighborhoods in the NEPA area. Hospitals are getting a boost from Blue Cross NEPA and a new medical school is on the front...you can find them online (Geisinger, WVHCS, CMC, Mercy, etc.). Some schools are better than others, but that's not a concern for you.
5. I think you'll find property taxes pale in comparison to taxes in NY. Also, sales tax is lower here.
I am an advocate for Wilkes Barre, but you might try these areas: Kingston, Forty Fort, Wyoming, Swoyersville, Dallas, Trucksville, Shavertown, Mountaintop, West Pittston.

I second the vote for NEPA from WBAdvocate. The bus ride from the area to NYC isn't a problem; my friends and I utilize either Martz Trailways or JoJo's Travelers on a regular basis for our trips to NYC. You can easily find a decent home in our area for $150,000 or less, and crime is quite low, overall. Community Medical Center in Scranton is well-noted for its trauma center and neo-natal care, and Mercy Hospital in Scranton is also well-established in cardiac care. Property taxes should be considerably less than they are in much of Greater NYC/NJ. I
would recommend the Pocono Mountains (Monroe/Pike Counties) to you, but finding a home for under $150,000 with reasonable property taxes in either county would be a doozy.
