I am thinking the smell is that of manure... that's the first thing that came to my mind. Shippensburg, chambersburg, lancaster area ... farms = manure = spraying the fields etc..

Wow, this is an old thread!
Why? Because I'm very interested in moving there soon and would love to be able to have a specified area to check as soon as I sign in on the forum.

This is my first post on the forum but I might be able to help you out a little - moved to Franklin County last year for my employer having worked for them in 4 different areas of Pennsylvania. If you have any general questions just shoot and I'll do my best to answer them.

Given that the region continues its meteoric growth and given that there is widespread support for the creation of a South Central PA sub-forum and widespread opposition of just a Lancaster sub-forum I felt as if it was a relevant time to "bump" this topic for further discussion. Harrisburg as a stand-alone sub-forum is dead, more or less. Would it be better to instead expand it to include these neighboring counties that are interdependent upon one another culturally, socially, and economically?

I think it would be a great idea. It seems the level of activity on here from that part of the state would justify a new sub-forum for it. Not to motion the overwhelming support for it from the poll.

Default Philadelphia & Suburbs

I think you have to specify that Philadelphia subforum includes Bucks, Montgomery, and Chester counties. I assume that Lancaster is going to go with Harrisburg subforum.

I admit it is somewhat arbitrary, as many people are commuting along the main line from both Chester and Lancaster, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

Interesting. A wide majority have said yes to this older proposal and no to the newer proposal. This truly is the best grouping for a new subforum.

lancaster was once part of chester county. it straddles the south central-philly divide. lots of red shirts at the lancaster train station on a summer sunday.
