Here's some pictures of beautiful old homes in the area that are currently being remodeled and painstakingly restored, or have just recently been completed through the grant mentioned earlier in this thread, as well as from private funding, and the homeowners own money.

Hi Martin! Glad you like what you see, and that you're thinking of relocating here. Like most post-industrial communities, the City of Sharon faces some challenges, but as someone who has resided there quite a while I can say that plenty of good things are happening too. People are discovering (and/or rediscovering) the city's quality housing stock as well as the affordable cost of living, the solid school district, the ecletic business mix, and the access to recreational gems such as the Buhl Community Recreation Center, Buhl Farm Park, Shenango River Lake, and Avalon Golf & Country Club. Arts and culture are also making a comeback locally--a former department store downtown is now home to the thriving Ballet Theatre Shenango Valley, and a successful art gallery (29 Logan Ave.) recently opened in the city's West Hill neighborhood. A local development partnership will also be breaking ground in the spring for an 8-story retail/office/loft apartment building in the heart of downtown, the first phase of a planned $32 million waterfront revitalization project; other buildings are being purchased and redeveloped. Word on the street is that the city's (and county's) largest employer, Sharon Regional Health System, is also planning a major expansion. I wish you the best of luck with your move and hope that you can see the rust being shaken off!

Also, in nearby Sharpsville, part of The Shenango Valley, along with Sharon, they just re-opened the old Pierce Opera House this past Summer. Another show was preformed in November, both shows were sold out.

"D'oh!" How did I forget about that? I was one of the ones who couldn't get a ticket!

Sharon. It has a cute downtown. New Castle has destroyed so much of its historic fabric for (failed) urban renewal projects it's basically a waste. There's a strip-mall like Rite Aid right on the town square; the colonial courthouse had a huge stucco octagon appended to it in the 1980s; and even the North Hill Historic District (listed on the national register of historic places, should be delisted now) was destroyed when they replaced the high school with some suburban-looking monstrosity.

Well, Flor-id-duhh! I was born and raised in New Castle. If you think Florida is bad, move to NC. Go to the local Walmart and thats, almost, New Castle in a whole. I finally left the area when I was 30 years old. Moved to Central Ohio. That was a great move. Got tired of the snow. So after 10 years in Ohio...Guess where we moved...
Florida! Imagine that. We love it.
I'm not ragging about everyone in Western PA. We really miss PGH. Its a great city, great food and they have the Steelers! Can't get any better.
And yes, we do miss Quaker Steak and Lube. The best place for wings!
