Yeah, it sucks. We have no Wegman's here in western PA. I've been to them several times when visiting relatives in the Harrisburg area, and they are awesome stores.

i went to aldi's last night, and was very impressed with their prices. They usually do not have the same brands as the regular grocery stores, but they have similar items at great prices. Fit and Lively was the brand I was seeing a lot of at Aldi's.
They only accept cash or checks, and their hours are not that great (close at 7pm) and they do not have grocery bags, you either bring your own or find boxes in the store.
Overall all though, I am going to go back for my grocery shopping as their prices beat any other store I have ever been to. The store was clean and very neat and the produce looked good. I was impressed with the store.

Individual stores that are part of a grocery chain do not all carry the same inventory throughout, so I can't vote for a chain. All chains have creative store managers, and managers who seriously must have a lead palate. I've always shopped at 2 or more chains weekly, and when I lived/worked in NJ I shopped at a wide range of chains all along my 42 mile commute. Besides, I am not the type of person who has ever felt any loyalty to a brand or a store. I'm not a consumerista.

I liked Fox's when they were in UD for unusual items. When we lived in Juniata County and had to see our allergist in State College twice a year, we loaded up the back of the car with goodies from the International Market -- a great place! The smell of the spice room was heavenly! And the old Walnut Acres farm outlet store was awesome as well. Real bread!

But the best specialty food shopping of all is on comcastDOTnet. Online shopping often means FREE shipping, and I get a nice sturdy box to recycle for my business.
