I am looking to move back to PA for my retirement. I am originally from the Phila. suburban area. I am now considering Williamsport for retirement. What is your opinion on Williamsport?

I have driven through williamsport many times when taveling between Rochester NY and Raleigh NC.... it seems like a vary charming small city. Last summer it looked as if there was a lot of revitalization going on in some it's central areas. It also has a Wegmans, so that makes it 10x better. lol

I haven't been there, personally, but on the news, it appears to have high crime there, since that town is mentioned alot from that area. All I know is what I have heard on the news and the paper.

I use to live in Lock Haven (yuck). On my several visits to Williamsport I came to the conclusion that it seems to be very country with a lot of older buildings. If you want a slow slow pace of life, natural beauty and don't mind cold winters Williamsport is a good place to be.

You may want to consider Lancaster, very nice and slower pace of living than that which is found in Philly, but not as slow and off the beaten path as Williamsport.

My fiance is from Williamsport (well San Jose, CA) originally, but he moved there when he was about 10 because of his dad's job. That being said, I visited there a lot to see his family. Just like any other town, Williamsport has it's perks. The little league world series is great and it does bring a lot of business into the city during the season. There are a lot of great restaurants, but one this that surprised me is that there are hardly any restaurants that serve breakfast! We ended up going to McDonald's one day because we couldn't find anything else. In my opinion, I'm not real impressed with the area as a place to live, especially lately. There has been a huge jump in crime there for some reason. But, the mountains are beautiful, especially when you go further north. If you're into camping and cold winters, it is the place for you. Hope that helps. Congrats on your retirement, or upcoming retirement and I hope you make the right decision.

I live in Williamsport and was born here, I will just say it is not the place it was when I was growing up.. The only perks here are the little league world seris which lasts for two weeks out of the year and the scenery exspecially in the fall.. There are a few nice retirement communities here though.. It is like almost any place you go it has its bad with its good.. But I would not recommend it to a person looking for work..
