My husband and I are thinking of moving to the Mt Joy or surrounding areas, depending if he gets a job in Quarreyville. We chose Mt Joy because I work in Harrisburg and that would be about halfway inbetween. Any advice about homes in the area - towns, real estate, hiking trails, parks, things to do, restaurants etc. We don't have kids yet, so I'm not worried about schools. I would love to live in a single home on a tree lined street with a nice backyard, but I'm not sure if our budget will allow

Any thoughts on the area(s)? Good or bad please! Thanks.

Default Can anybody help?

There must be someone out there who can give this person some tips, advice?

I cant be of much help, but from talking to others i have heard that Mt.Joy is a safe , clean and very nice area. But again i cant say much because i'm also trying to gather info on Lancaster County, but only a small handful of people reply on the Lancaster threads.

Did you search realtor.com for homes?

Maybe you should call a realtor and ask for a relocation package? Or spend a few days in Mt.Joy?

Good luck and i hope people from Lancaster County reply back soon.

E-Town and Mt. Joy are both great towns. I pass through them when I take Amtrak to Philly (which is another great thing - they both have Amtrak stops in their downtowns...how many small towns in America can say that? as a matter of fact, you could even use Amtrak to commute to Harrisburg if you work downtown, the trains right quite frequently). I really don't think you should have a problem finding an affordable home in either town...that's where all the affordable homes are in PA, in the boroughs. The townships are building mostly all the expensive sprawl.

I have lived in the area 42 years ( my whole life ) If I am you I would purchase a town house or rent for about 3-5 years, get situated ( with jobs etc ) maybe you will like a different area better in those first years( then I would buy after you are able to save up a little.)Sounds like you did a little homework on location. Quarryvilles about an hour drive south from Mt Joy , Harrisburgh maybe 35 minutes north.MtJoy would be a nice place to start out . In a young marriage you need to give and take ,respect each other to the fullest, build for your future ( children, church, work, community ). I fully understand you wanting to get a location in between Harrisburg/Quarryville. I don't think there is an all access route to Quarryville regardless of where you live . You should look into Lititz , especially if you will be starting a family in the next 3-5 years. Kissel Hill Elem A+ Grace Church A+ Mall access A+ setting A+ Lanc General Hospital A+ and whatever else you make it . Good Luck!

Quarryville, PA has about the lowest real esate tax rate in the state. You may want to check out Zillow.com. for homes in the area. Just 20 minutes ride from Parkesburg train station.
