I've been reading alot of posts that seem to comment on the lancaster area not being very accepting of outsiders. We are a young family with 4 kids looking to relocate to Elizabethtown. I have also read that people tend to be close minded. Is this true? Does there seem to be new familys moving into the area ?

Thanks

Until just recently (about 2 years ago), we had a home in Etown that we got when my wife's parents passed. Our daughter lived in the home for awhile til she moved to Colorado. We've spent lots of time in Etown and I think its a great place. Near the top of the page where you entered this topic is a search forum option. Enter Elizabethtown there and you should come up with lots and lots of discussion on Etown.

Elizabethtown seems to be an exception to the unfriendly suburbs of Lancaster County. The folks we know who come from outside the area seem not to have problems there. Maybe the college and the proximity to Harrisburg (state capital, much exchange of people within the state) helps.

Specialty meat shop
Rooster Street Provisions, which makes and sells meats and sausages, is open in Elizabethtown at 17 W. High St.
Owners Tony and Kristina Page specialize in the handcrafted cured, smoked and fermented pork products known as charcuterie. They buy pigs from local farmers and use them "from head to tail" to make products including salami, prosciutto and specialty bacon.
The retail shop has some 400 square feet of space, with equipment in the back for smoking and aging the meat. They also sell dry rubs and brines in addition to seasonal canned jams and spreads. The shop is in a spot that most recently had been the home of Italian Kitchen.
Hours: 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Phone: 481-0088.
