We're looking to move to PA within the next 1-2 years so we can be closer to family (I'm originally from Berks Co) but we're not sure where to start looking. My husband is in IT and is hoping to work in KOP or Philly...we're looking for a nice neighborhood with good schools and a nice downtown area where you can walk around easily with parks, etc. You know, the idyllic suburb....any friendly suggestions??

When are you moving? hopefully summer 2010....maybe fall/winter
Where are you coming from? CT
Why are you moving? closer to family
Where will you be working? looking in KOP/Philly
Have you been here yet? yes

Will you buy or rent? buy
If buying, are you looking for a house or a condo? How much can you spend? single fam house <250,000

Are you married or single? Do you have children? married w/ a 6m old
Do you prefer public or private schools? public
Do you have pets? cat
Do you want or need a yard? would like a yard
Are you keeping a car? yes, 2
Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? either as long as its safe

What do you want to be closest to? nightlife and public transport aren't big priorities....
Work
Shopping
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.)
Nightlife
Train or subway stations

Do you want to live with people of a similar age, race, religion or sexual preference or do you prefer a diverse neighborhood? diversity is good....as long as people are friendly and welcoming

Phillies, Pirates or Mets? Phillies but since living in CT I'm a converted Yankees fan....but Eagles all the way for football!!

West Chester in Chester County, Media in Delaware County are both quaint small towns that would fit your criteria. They are about 10 miles apart, in between is Ridley Creek State Park and Springton Lake which is a 2600 acre recreation area. Hiking, biking, fishing, jogging etc. This might be a good general area to consider.

The housing market in these areas runs the gamut from classic mainstreet usa scenes, to older healthy 1950's suburbia, to newer 7 digit mcmansions West Chester + Media haave a little bit of grit but they wear it well.

Good luck
