That depends on what part of West Virginia is your destination! Which city or town?

For the record, I81 only goes through a brief part of West Virginia....

81 South will take you directly into WV. You will actually hit Maryland first but only be in MD for 10 minutes. Then you will hit the WV state line. It should only take you about an hour and a half tops to get into the state but of course your time will then depend on where in WV you are going.

Also, 81 will only take you through the eastern panhandle section of WV and then into Virginia.

The West Virginia state line is only a little over an hour away from Mechanicsburg PA via I81.

However, that's just a small edge of West Virginia.

You'll only be in WV for 20 minutes if you stay on I81.

You very well might be in for a four hour drive depending on where you're going. It could even be a 6 or 8 hour drive if you're going to the other end of the state.

Your directions sounds more like taking the turnpike west past Pittsburgh and into the Wheeling area of WV. Going south on 81 puts you in a different area of WV closer to Harper's Ferry and Morgantown, and from Mechanicsburg should only be about 2 hours.

Huh? Harper's Ferry is in eastern WV near Shepherdstown, almost into VA. Morgantown is in western WV and you would take 81 to 70 to 68 to head toward Morgantown. Neither town is very close to 81 and they are nowhere near each other.

To give you an idea of travel time, if for example you are heading to the Martinsburg area, it shouldn't take you more than an hour and a half. Martinsburg is about the halfway point on 81 while traveling through WV. You are only on 81 in WV for 20 minutes then you hit VA.
