We'll be heading to PA for the holidays later this week and was just wondering what we can expect in terms of snow on the ground and what's expected for the weekend.
Thanks!

The average snow fall was around 12 inches for Altoona, and as much as 20 inches for places to the south such as Bedford.

I would not worry about how much snow they got because snow is a here today and gone tomorrow type thing. Penndot has plows on their trucks and they just push it off the road and spread salt and with the sun shining today the roads will all be bare.

I would suggest that if you do not have snow tires or good tires to go out and buy some new tires for your car before you travel. Not just the drive tires on the front of a front wheel drive, but all 4 tires, because when you drive - your car does not travel on just the two front tires, but all 4.

When you use the proper tires in Pennsylvania, you do not have much problems getting around. I wouldn't let the weather forecasters scare you.

There is almost a 50% chance that any form of precipitation that falls on Christmas day will be in the form of rain and not snow. There is probably a 100% chance that there will be some form of precipitation that weekend and that there will be snow on the ground when you get here.

Go to http://wearecentralpa.com/ to check out the weather forecast for the area. Joe Murgo is a good meteorologist and he is usually more accurate then the big city forecasters in Pittsburgh.. WTAJ Channel 10 Altoona.

Thanks, I S. Yep, we have good tires so that shouldn't be a problem. And it looks like a mix of rain and snow on Christmas day. We'll take it. Happy holidays!
