Hi, My husband and I are buying a home in Lewistown pa. now both of us are from very very small towns. I have 2 kids Both in elemantry . I have been doing allot of serches on the web about the town and the schools, we drove 1 day and i got so scared, the town is so busy and so much stuff to check out.

Now last night my hubby says " I shouldn't tell you this but their are allot of murders that happen in this town"
so of course now I cant sleep, i know the middle and high school the kids have to walk and that scares me to even though i have a few years to prep them for that.

anyways I guess if anyone knows anything on the town or can help relax me about this move, for the love of pete tell me.

I can also be emailed at arenarook@yahoo.com thanks allot.

I think the good things in Lewistown will outweigh the bad. They do have a drug issue in that area but the police are working on it. It's not a matter of people burying their heads in the sand and being in denial. We have the same thing in Western Snyder County, which abuts the Lewistown area.

If you decide you don't like it after a time, you can sell and move to somewhere close but a different school district. Are you moving because of a job? The roads are good and getting better so a short commute shouldn't be a problem.

Lewistown is a very pretty little town and I really do think you'll enjoy living there. I'm pretty sure the murders that have occurred there are related to the drug trade, and since I doubt you'll be getting into that line of work you should be fine.

Relax, and enjoy this new and exciting time in your lives.

thank you for the advice. i love the house were buying and its on the east end of the town near 322. my husband is a former marine now works in law, so that kinda makes me feel good.were moving from weedville pa so this is a jump for me. but im sure after some time and getting past the fear of traffic and getting to know the town and layout it will be fine.

I want to add that I moved to Lewistown in 2003 and have come to really enjoy this town. I cannot say that I recall hearing about murders though since I have been here.

My god thats crime for one year ? well I would never tell anyone that lewistown is a nice place.. I remember my mom being raped and robbed when i was 9.. it caused us to leave there and it was it turned out the best..we all had a real chance at life...being poor and from lewistown is a real problem.. you end up with no job skills from all the factory work and most people just want enough to pay bills.. yea it is a breeding ground for part time crime..drugs and lewistown and crime are forever best friends...
