Hi,

I'll be moving to Erie in August to work at Penn State Erie. I'm wondering if you have suggestions of areas to live for a 30-something, single professional. I really like to walk, so my main criteria are places where I can walk freely and ideally have places to hop into along the way, e.g., coffeeshops, parks, etc. Thanks in advance!

Lawrence Park or North East, both classic small towns, both within a few miles of Behrend.

If you don't mind a drive to work, look for something on the west side of town near Presque Isle. Lots of space to ride bikes, water sports, and you'll never run out of places to walk on the peninsula.
Contact Pastore Rentals at (814) 838-9640, South Shore Apartments at (814) 899-2424, or Baldwin Brothers at (814) 454-4541. There are many others, but these should get you started.

North East is definitely more than a "few" miles away.

You are never far from anywhere in Erie County. North East definitely has a coffee shop and lots of walkable other little stores. The east side of the City of Erie is very close to the campus. You will hear a lot of not good things about that side of town, but near the campus is fine, especially south of 38th Street. There is actually a bike trail that runs along the Bayfront Highway that can be accessed near Behrend and rode into the city.

Barbados is still there. Loved going there on Saturday nights for their buffet!
