We are thinking of relocating to Gulf Breeze with small children. We just came back from a visit and I loved it!

I have seen some posts stating that the area is not good for children. We visited two schools on Gulf Breeze and they were very nice with many of the same programs the ones we have now. The area also seems very safe and friendly to me.

Why do some of you think the are is not good for children?

I don't know where you heard that Gulf Breeze is a bad place for kids but it's not true. It's a great place for kids. Maybe you're confusing it with Pensacola. I realize the two places are only separated by a three-mile bridge, but they are very different.

I forgot where the negative post I saw was- we would move to Gulf Breeze because of the school rating. We also drove around Pensacola right off the bridge and I saw beautiful neighborhoods and homes - some were breathtaking vintage homes.

Smile To Fairfax Mom:

Hi:

I saw your post regarding small children in Gulf Breeze. We too are trying to move down there. I have an 8 year old who has been going to a very small school, maybe 300 students. If you can give me your insight into the schools down there, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,
ljrapo

We visited Gulf Breeze Elementary and Oriole Beach School and they both have high ratings on the Great Schools website. We come from a large elemntary about 700 students and both of these schools are about that many also. The schools looked nice and had the same type of programs the schools we are in now have - maybe not as many programs but it looked good enough for me. I do find the area much less urban than Fairfax county which is huge and very urban so anything looks smaller and calmer to us. LOL

Gulf Breeze is a great choice for families. We moved here over a year ago and glad we did. My husband and I have a teenager that moved with us, and when our adult son and wife came with our grandchildren for a visit, they went back home, packed up and moved here as well.
They have some really cool events for families. Some that our grandkids love to do are the fishing tournaments for kids. The schools are good in the Santa Rosa school district, but I was warned to stay away from Escambia county schools. We moved to Navarre and really like it because the beach is quiet and family oriented, whereas Pensacola Beach can get a bit more crowded. But we enjoy going to Pensacola Beach on the off season for some good restaurants and Fort Pickens is a great outing. Good luck and I can try to answer questions if you have any....but remember, I am pretty new to the area myself! Loving every minute of it!!

That drive would be an hour, NOT accounting for traffic. You definitely do not want to live in Navarre and attend school at UWF's main campus.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. Seems like Pace/Milton is the way to go. Is the area between the airport and Escambia Bay nice?
