hello everyone! I have a lot of things I want to ask you guys!

so I guess I will start by saying that me and my family live in Oregon, and we would like a warmer state. Let me say that I HATE Oregon with such a deep passion, everyone here is always in a bad mood because of the rain, and constant cloud cover! There is always a gloom over this state.

So we are looking to start our lives somewhere different. After about 6 months of doing a lot of research of the entire Untied States, Florida really sounds like the best spot for us, more specifically Gulf Breeze FL.

All I have heard about this place is great things. Everything from the schools, to how nice the people are, and how great the weather is.

Ok so what is the bad? The one thing i REALLY worry about is the hurricanes . Coming from Oregon where there is never any kind of natural disasters, you could see why this would freak me out.

Before anyone says "well if you worry about the hurricanes then do not move here" I have heard it before so please just help me relax a little about them rather than just flatout tell me not to move there .

I just want to know how bad they get there, how often, ect. Oh also do you get tornadoes there??

I was also curious what kind of homeowners insurance would you want to carry living in Gulf Breeze? And what would be a general cost of the insurance?

Also coming from Oregon what would be a huge shock for us?

I have read that the people are very nice in Gulf breeze, what is considered nice? Are we talking nice as in they are always in your business, or just very polite.

Oregon people are horrible! Let me just say, i have lived in Oregon my whole life (i am 21) and now have NO friends. All the friends turned to hard drugs, and no one here is very friendly so it makes it very hard to get friends here.

I also just want to add that, yes i am only 21, but i am way mature for my age. My wife is also 21, and we have a 2 year old daughter ( just figured i would gave you some more background on us to better be able to help us with are questions)

Ok well that is all i will throw in for now. I do apologize for all the questions at once.

Oh one quick thing, we are looking to buy a single family home not rent.

i look forward to hearing back from you guys

The quality of light, and the heat, will be the most shocking. Good luck.

If what you say about Oregon is true, you will be shocked by how bright the sunlight is in Florida.
To give an example; I'm in the UK, I bought a pair of sunglasses while I was in Florida, they were just fine for Florida, but are of no use here, I've not used them since, I can hardly see through them, even on bright days!

Florida is really, really hot, have you been?

No but I am planing a trip, we should be leaving in about 4 months, to go check it out. I would just like everyones opinion before i go, so that i have a idea about what to expect.

Plus just because i go visit does not mean i will know all about the place.

But thank you for your insight

Too right, a visit is never enough.

I've learnt a lot by just reading posts of advice on here, jobs, housing, climate, almost everything is covered. So much information to consider, from many, very helpful people. Don't believe it all though, there is much negativity on these forums.

Good Luck in finding a new life.

Yeah have noticed that some people can be very rude, or way off when it comes to describing a place, you just have to be careful who you listen to.

Thanks for your insight! Just wish some more people would post on this.

There is a Pensacola forum where you can do a search on Gulf Breeze and get plenty of information.

Gulf Breeze is a great place to raise kids. But, if you've never lived in or visited Florida, you might want to do so in the summer. It's hot, very hot, and very humid. It's also very conservative if that matters to you. Also, very centered around church.

Click on the red triangle in the upper right hand corner of your post and ask that it be moved to the Pensacola forum. That should get you more responses.

oh thank you, i was kind of wondering why no one was posting.

the conservative part kind of draws a red flag, but then again i don't think i have really met any conservative types, just heard a lot of bad things about it.

The church thing kind of freaks me out, my wife loves church and all that, but for me church's give me the creeps, NO offence to people that go!!! Just me personally not my thing.

But i will move this post, thank you for the advice

Please don't go by what you hear about conservatives. They are generally interested in family and religion than anything else. Most places in Pensacola are great places to live.
