We have our eye on a particular home in the Milton area but the statistics (1 to 43) for registered sex offenders is staggering. Other nearby communities have much lower numbers. Can any one shed light on why Milton has such high numbers?

Not sure is the data is right, this site shows 214 or (41 to one). I suspect that the small number of people in Milton and the proximity to Pensacola. Pensacola has 708 or (76 to 1).

I really doubt most of the sex offenders are the church going type. And I say that as a non-religious person myself.

I was considering Pensacola, but after seeing the high percentage of sex offenders there, Pensacola is out. The numbers are much higher than any place I've ever seen in the USA. I also noticed some of them were from out of state. Have a bunch of them gathered together for some reason?

That is what I wondered also. Is there more protection there, halfway houses, that type of thing to draw so man?. I have looked at all the city data sites and statistics and it is alarming.
I don't understand the correlation one person made about being Christian/conservative as the reason for the high number of registered sex offenders. Seems it should be the opposite.
What am I missing?
Are the people who reside in Milton alarmed by these numbers also?

Maybe because Milton is surrounded by a lot of rural areas that are far enough away from schools and day cares so that the sex offenders can live there. I don't know. Florida is very strict about sex offenders, so I know in doing a search it seems like the whole state is crawling with them.

Sometimes it can be misdleading though. Not all "sex offenders" are child-molesting predators. Some might have just taken a leak on the roadside or outside the bar at the wrong time. A misdemeanor Indecent Exposure or Public Indecency can give you the sex offender label nowadays.
