We are trying to figure out where to start when looking for a possible move. I saw that San Blas has the dog friendly beaches and Destin more lively. Are they far apart if we commuted? Can anyone help me with San Blas and what is there? Schools? Target? Any info would be appreciated!

Cape San Blas is REALLY out in the middle of nowhere! -- Destin/Ft. Walton Beach is sort of in the middle of nowhere, but, a ton of tourists, snow birds and spring breakers come here. There's not much to do in either place, although Destin is known for it's sugar beaches, fishing, golf and tourist-friendly town. (There are a couple of dog parks in the area).

So all you need is Target and a dog-friendly beach? What about jobs?

Your jobs would line up well.

What are you looking for in a place to live? Silly people move down here without a clue. Jobs aren't great. My wife teaches, and took a $10K cut in salary. It all depends on where you are coming from and what you expect. If you're from the Cities, there isn't much to do here. If you're from a small area (we have family in Brainerd) then there is a lot of outdoor stuff to do. You just won't freeze your bu** off doing it.

Finally, visiting is the key. I grew up 250 miles from Destin and came almost every year for 40 years, but still came with a different viewpoint about moving here. My wife and I looked at other places (Tampa), but knew all along this was what we wanted.

Has your husband applied for any positions in the area? The pay will most likely be much lower than he currently makes, and teaching positions aren't easy to come by. Have you visited the area? It seems unlikely if you're asking about living in Cape San Blas. There are no jobs there or anywhere close by.

I'm not sure why you say that about teaching positions. We moved here 28 May. By July, my wife had multiple offers.
