We are retired military but I have always had my own health insurance, so never really used Tricare. DH is currently using his companies health insurance. We are moving in Aug to the area, and I am keeping my current job. The decision I need to make is whether I should keep my health insurance. We really only use it for yearly things, which I know could change etc. We have a healthy 12 year old, who has never, ever been sick. She only goes for annual checkups.

Currently where we live finding drs that will take Tricare is spotty, there are plenty, but just not the drs I want. Anyway, is it more widely accepted there? Does Eglin take retirees? The Military facility here will only take you in the emergency room, all appts need to be make off base.

My experience at Eglin has been amazing. I can normally get an appointment in days. I figured being a former Army guy would hinder me. Not at all. I go on post and my wife goes to Dr Z. in Destin. Both of us have been very happy. If you decide to go with Eglin, send me a PM. I've figured out how to work the appointment system. ;-)

I'd even go further to say we've been very happy with Humana Military. No issues with referrals or timeliness. We've been surprised at the number of specialists that accept TRICARE. Even the renowned Dr. Andrews accepts it.

I needed an Endoscope. 3 weeks from referral to procedure. That would have taken months in Kansas.

Excellent news! I've heard similar stories from others. I guess where I am is just so dense with retirees and active duty that there just isn't availbility. Combine that with a general high population, Drs just don't need to accept Tricare.

Thanks again.
