What are the best resources to find IT work in the panhandle? It seems most work is with the Government and requires clearances. Does anyone have any insider info or a good place to search beside the usual USAJOBS, indeed etc? Thank you!

I have been a regular follower of the city-data forums for about two years. Just recently created a log-in for the board.

I used to live in Niceville and still have plenty of family in Northwest Florida region. Went to Okaloosa Walton High School (now Northwest Florida State College) and UWF for undergraduate work.

was/is spot on.

I found NW Florida to be terrible as far as any IT jobs are concerned. It is DoD/government with clearances, (Not saying you can't get, but just an additional hurdle to go through - if you don't have clearances on many positions you're not considered qualified; as there are likely others that DO have it.)

Northwest Florida is a military haven with little industry outside of the tourism and basic service industry jobs and some health care. (Then again, what areas don't have hospitals of some sort? Even though, when those jobs go -- people don't really leave quickly providing additional openings.)

The links provided are fine as they are national search agencies, and you may find something that works.
Working as a Air Force contractor at Tyndall or Eglin would be optimal and you could make great connections. Still, as a private citizen finding outside IT work was extremely limited.

With all that being said .... good luck!

You might want to check out Navy Federal Credit Union. They have a pretty good sized IT department I hear.

I feel your pain OP. I have family in the Panhandle and live in upstate, NY right now. I am planning on moving to Florida to settle for good within the next year and would love to move to the Panhandle but as you said, almost all IT jobs (my field as well) are government gigs that require clearances. And clearances are a ***** to acquire without military service or a spotless record (I have a DWI on mine). So I've pretty much ruled out the panhandle and am looking at Tampa or Orlando. The only place in NWF with a decent private sector is Pensacola and I don't see much there often either.

I have family in Milton, would like to get away from Atlanta and be closer to the beach. Had a clearance years ago in the Military but that expired years ago. Looking like a pipe dream of finding employment in the panhandle. I will check out NFCU Moondoggy51.
