I typed it out as the notation was hand written on the back of Mildred's birth certificate. Some minor research I have done indicates that the 1st five numbers is the storage location and second five numbers may be the actual file number. No address given as to where in New York.
Yes, I requested a copy of a marriage certificate for some family research and it had a similar notation on it (in my case, handwritten) that a copy had been send some years before to another state. I suspect this is just record keeping.

There is no address in Windham NY on the 1959 travel document either, Howard. It just says Windham NY. As previously discussed, the name was spelled as Windom originally, then written over with the correct spelling.

Mr Skin have you done any research on the reasons Americans visited and/or did business in Cuba in the 1950s? I've done some, and will send you a summary in a private message, as it might just be grasping at straws where your mother is concerned. Let me know if you'd like it, and I'll send it along to you, along with some other research I've done that may or may not tie in with the trip to Cuba.

Just started looking at American Missionaries involved in Cuba in the 1950's. Not sure if that will pan out.

If you think your mother had another child after 1948, wouldn't DNA testing possibly and remotely lead you to them.

I imagine that is a possibility. I have thought about an Ancestry DNA. Do you think it would be worth the money? Do they hook you up with others with the same DNA link?

Yes, they do. I was contacted by a 5th or 6th cousin and by my 1st cousin. I never knew anything about my father's fsmily except he had brothers and sisters. I have found out so much!

Thanks for suggesting DNA Howard. I've been following the thread on my cell, haven't had a chance to suggest it.

His story is similar to my MIL except there were 2 kids the mother left with the father. MIL was raised by her step mother who didn't have any kids with her father. I was very close to the step mother till her death a few years ago. She didn't know I knew she wasn't their mother.

MIL didn't know much about her mother, I was able to find record of her name, but the trail went cold. My hub did DNA last year, it hooked him up with a cousin on MIL's mothers side.

See my thread, Family tree and DNA general instructions, it will tell you how to take your ancestry DNA results then upload to 3 free databases. DNA is cheap right now and will be going on sale with the holiday coming up

It's around $95 maybe.
It might be a worthwhile expense as clues are running out.
I have about 5 irons in the fire for you and it will take time to get any results from them, either positive or negative.

Great story, Roselvr, and an excellent thread on the genealogy forum as well. I must have missed it when you started it back in August -- glad you pointed us to it here!

Mr Skin, you've invested so much time in your search. What harm would there be in giving the DNA testing route a try? And, the cost is reasonable enough.

Howard, as always, a great suggestion.
