I believe this has already been posted elsewhere on this forum but not in this section so here goes....
This man has been unidentified since 2018, his body found in a tent on a campsite on the Florida trail after completing the Appalachian.

He used the trail name ‘Mostly Harmless’ as he told fellow hikers he was into sci-fi and spoke about tv shows such as Doctor Who but he also used the alias of ‘Ben Bilemy’ when authorities ran this name there is no one that exists with this identity.

He was found with notes of computer code some related to game called screeps but this matches up with his tech background as he told another fellow hiker he worked in IT in Brooklyn.
He also told another person he has connections to Baton Rouge and a sister in Sarasota, FL or Saratoga, NY and an ex girlfriend.

He was 5’8, estimated to be around 35-45, grey eyes, salt and pepper hair and sometimes sported an unkept beard.
Although he was a slim build at the start of the trails he was only 83lbs when police found him deceased but he once mentioned that he used to be a little “heavy”.

He also has a vertical large scar on his abdomen.

FWIW, the authorities have recently started the "genealogical DNA" search process on the man.

I wonder if anyone has just run it through Ancestry.com or 23&me.

Seems a good place to start - if you get family hits, you can very likely find out who he is.

I'm always just baffled why people are apparently not looking for their family.

ClaraC, baffling indeed. Kinda scary how people can just slip through the cracks.

We are aware that genealogical testing is underway but a combination of tips could help identify him sooner.

Baffling? Most of us don't know people in our own neighborhoods since they moved in. Someone on a trail somewhere in FL? Not baffling. Anomie - he may not have wanted to be found. He may not have wanted anyone to know. In the reported story, he had a big wad of cash on him and spent money comfortably. He paid his own way or bartered for his needs. He didn't neglect himself. He used good equipment. He was a wandering soul by his own choice. An unturned page? No, he could have traveled to anyone any way and he chose to be discreet. He had an interesting story that few could validate. In our world of computers, people are found much more quickly than 2 years. Among 'geeks' and 'nerds' (professionally), he would have been recognized easily.

There is more to this story. When things don't add up, you have to retrace footprints for more info. While his story 'held' together across time, it may not have been his own, and he may have been disseminating a fabrication. Because he presented as a relatively intact but closed person, he passed innocuously without sharing more.

I read this story today about a fabricated life. (https://getpocket.com/explore/item/e...=pocket-newtab) It is equally curious. Good luck to the OP and other piqued searchers.

UPDATE: DNA analysis has proven this man is Cajun and through a possible encounter it is believed that his name could be Chris/Christopher.

No insult to this poster, but 'proven' is an operative word; genotype is not phenotype. Here's another interesting read on the accuracy of DNA testing: https://www.vox.com/science-and-heal...ence-explainer

Another read is on how it is used as a proof in the criminal sciences, with results that should be questioned: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine...-doubt/480747/

This hiker has been found, he was located by Internet sleuths, as per story; there was more to know about him, and it seems it was not as pristine as others imagined: See also

I read this recently. A very troubled young man. I pray he has found some peace at last. His family has asked for privacy, I believe and there is quite a story behind the story. All I can say, Is RIP, your trail has ended.
