I am trying to find my half-brother. My father was serving at Dachau in 1945 and was stationed in a private home. He had an affair with the owner's daughter. He was then transferred to New Ulm and she followed him there. She got pregnant, but my father was sent back to the states before she gave birth.
He later found out she had a son, born in 1946. Her name was Johanna Stengele. I have no idea what she named her son.
Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can try and find him?

You should consider doing ancestry DNA when it goes on sale for $59, then upload your ancestry DNA RAW data to my heritage which is world wide. I just gave someone similar advice so I will paste it in.
A long shot would be seeing if you could find his mother on facebook.
You may also try doing a family tree on the free website family search where I've had my European family find my tree. Is your dad deceased? You should also do a tree on ancestry and my heritage so that if your brother googles your father, he may stumble on it.
You should also add your fathers name and whatever info you're comfortable adding, he may find that too.

Tell the one that contacted you (Debbie) to do the same.
I also suggest you do ancestry DNA when it's on sale for $59. You will match with DNA cousins.
Once you do it, I can tell you how to download your ancestry DNA file to upload to my heritage for free.
You may also find family on 23 and me but it's expensive. Ancestry is a genealogy site, 23 and me is a health testing site but it does give you DNA matches. My heritage is also a genealogy site like ancestry.
Do not buy DNA from my heritage because it will end up being $100 more. DNA there is $49, then $12 shipping with $5 to ship it back, then you need a $99 data plan to unlock the advanced DNA tools.
Ancestry is $59 on sale with $10 shipping. You only need a subscription if you want to save record sources to your family tree. As I said, you download your DNA RAW data file to upload to my heritage for free, it gives you matches, also showing you matches all over the world. If you have family that immigrated, chances are you have matches in your home country like I do.
Free account will show you one common match, it will allow you to contact your DNA matches.
There is a one time fee of $29 which unlocks the ability to see all of your common matches, ethnicity, surnames and family trees of matches along with advanced DNA tools, so it is way cheaper to upload for free than to do a test there.
Send me a message if for some reason I don't get back here if you do DNA. I'll leave the link with directions to download the DNA. Uploading to my heritage is also there.
I don't think it would help doing a search for his mother, as her age would be around 95. Also, I had my DNA done on Ancestry about four years ago, but I never thought to upload it to My Heritage.

I will look into doing that!
Thank you for your response and suggestions!
Uploading it is your best option. Consider doing 23 and me too during the black Friday sale.
Let me know if you need help with my heritage. There is a tips thread with directions in the genealogy section. It's very easy to do.

Numerous people have been found using obituaries. Would you have an estimate when and where she died?
