Congrats!
Please make sure you keep your city-data account up to date with your email addy because as you see, people will find your post years from now. It's usually one of the first results when someone googles a name in your post.
Tell the one that contacted you (Debbie) to do the same.
I also suggest you do ancestry DNA when it's on sale for $59. You will match with DNA cousins.
Once you do it, I can tell you how to download your ancestry DNA file to upload to my heritage for free.
You may also find family on 23 and me but it's expensive. Ancestry is a genealogy site, 23 and me is a health testing site but it does give you DNA matches. My heritage is also a genealogy site like ancestry.
Do not buy DNA from my heritage because it will end up being $100 more. DNA there is $49, then $12 shipping with $5 to ship it back, then you need a $99 data plan to unlock the advanced DNA tools.
Ancestry is $59 on sale with $10 shipping. You only need a subscription if you want to save record sources to your family tree. As I said, you download your DNA RAW data file to upload to my heritage for free, it gives you matches, also showing you matches all over the world. If you have family that immigrated, chances are you have matches in your home country like I do.
Free account will show you one common match, it will allow you to contact your DNA matches.
There is a one time fee of $29 which unlocks the ability to see all of your common matches, ethnicity, surnames and family trees of matches along with advanced DNA tools, so it is way cheaper to upload for free than to do a test there.
Send me a message if for some reason I don't get back here if you do DNA. I'll leave the link with directions to download the DNA. Uploading to my heritage is also there.
How to access and download your autosomal DNA results from AncestryDNA once you're ready to upload to other sites.
