When I was a child, I met my Grandfather one time. My mother did not have any relationship with him, and I'm not sure why. I have very little information. Here is what I remember.
His name was Joe Smith. His wife and daughter read tea leaves. Mom says he was a "gypsy". He had the nickname (this is from my memory at 4yrs old) of "Professor X". He lived in Cleveland, and/or Cincinnati in the mid 70's. If he's alive now, I'm guessing he would be 80yrs old. He had a really, really big family. He seemed very kind and positive. He had dark hair.
I'd love to find my relatives. If you have any advice, I'm thankful for it.
If you go to ancestry.com, you can find social security death records, also census info up to 1930. With such a common name, it will be harder, and if they led an itinerant lifestyle, they probably didn't pay into SS, or stay in one place too log, etc. Worth a try though.
