With the recent increase in gas prices, I've been signing up for several credit cards with gas rewards recently. However, out of those I just haven't heard back from Chevron (way past their stated typical response time.) It's possible the card's declined since I've signed up for too many in a short period (perfectly legitimate reason) but is it a requirement for credit card companies to take the initiative and give you the notice for declining a credit card app or can they simply "ignore" you and not respond as their "denial"?
They have to tell you you are declined, because they have to tell you the criteri they used to decline you, and offer you a free credit report that caused the declining....
You'll probably receive a rejection notice if your credit card application gets rejected. As per the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, all credit companies must inform a card applicant about the cause of denial and also that the applicant has the right to demand an explanation for such a denial. Such an explanation may be requested within 60 days as per the FTC norms.
If you have applied for a credit card and haven't received any response coming from the card issuer, their might be something wrong in your application process.
Here is how you apply for a credit cards following the complete steps and what to expect and what are the other ways other than applying online.
I hope they're supposed to send a letter of cancellation to you if you don't fulfill their criteria. That's why it's so important for all of us to offer a fair view of our financial situation during the application process.

What do you mean "fair view of our financial situation"? Are you referring about credit report coming from credit bureaus?
