WASHINGTON – Those yearly statements that Social Security mails out — here's what you'd get if you retired at 62, at 66, at 70 — will soon stop arriving in workers' mailboxes. It's an effort to save money and steer more people to the agency's website.
Have the mailing be opt-in and subtract 50 cents from the SS of those who opt-in. Problem solved. Those who want to save the money, have the option to, while those who don't care for the internet can pay the expense.
I received mine in the mail about 3 weeks ago, guess this will be starting soon. My parents are both 80 and are on the internet. My dad is hooked on it several hours a day always learning something. Mom isn't on as often but does use it to send and receive emails to/from relatives in other states.

Same... My dad is on it all the time doing research, downloading movies and music, etc.
My mom uses the computer a lot, but not so much the internet. She's spent a lot of time scanning in all the family photos from the past 100 years or so, and digitizing her wedding video, etc. Keeps her busy.
My parent's are relatively young seniors though. Older folks and those from rural areas might not have computers.
One thing some of you have missed is that people who are already receiving their Social Security benefits do not receive these annual statements anyway, so most older seniors will not be affected. (The 1099 forms will continue to be mailed, as required by law). Second, the SSA plans to resume mailing the statements to people 60 and above who are not already taking their benefits. This will substantially reduce the pool of affected people who do not have internet access.

Thanks for pointing out that we all failed to read.
