I'm a therapist. I visit clients in various locations. My milieage has always been reimbursed by my employer. But last year, I also did contract work (1099) for another company and mileage was not reimbursed. This is the first year that I will claim mileage and my car expenses as a work related expense on my taxes. Here's my question- I have kept a mileage log but it has client's names and addresses on it.
How, exactly, do I maintain confidentiality for my clients if I'm supposed to submit this for my taxes? I know I can block out the names, but what about the addresses? What's the bare minimum amount of info that I need to submit. I'm a little confused on this. Thanks.
Just keep your log book, and gas reciepts filed away. I believe it is for 7 years. Also, the irs web page may be helpful for details.
