Just tried to buy something online. (Pacific time 12:30 PM)

My transaction was denied and told to contact my credit card company.
(No, I'm not delinquent on payments)

Called the 800 number on the back and was told that no credit cards would be working for the next 3 hours. I said, "So that means there was a security breach?"

Answer, "Yes, ma'am ... no card will work for the next 3 hours."

I'd just like to know if anyone else out there has run into this today?

Real glad I have a credit freeze at all 3 agencies ...

The only thing that I can find while googling is an announcement on Friday about a huge breach.
Yet I used the card Saturday.
Can't figure out why they're doing this on Sunday.

You'd think *something* would show up on Google, if people couldn't buy gas or groceries.

Starting to think it's a horrendous April Fool's joke by Chase, or I happened to speak to a very lazy customer service person - she said she couldn't even bring up my records ...

I had the same problem at Target with my Visa today. They told me Visa is doing some kind of update of their systems. But she said my Visa debit card would work. I have a Pentagon Federal card. First time that has ever happened to me.

It's not just Chase or Penfed. There was a huge data breach that could affect 10 million Visa and Mastercards.

I don't have Chase CC, but here is the news:
UPDATE 4-Security breach hits U.S. card processors, banks | Reuters
Apparently MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover are investigated.
Interesting that US news are mum about it.

I read about it Friday in the Washington Post. Last I checked, they're considered part of the US news media.

Wow. thanks for starting this thread, Gandalara. I hadnt heard about this.

I tried to correct a minor address error on one of the credit bureaus a couple of weeks ago. As a result, there's a fraud alert on my account with all three credit agencies for the next six months.

At first, I was upset -- but then I came to realize that a fraud alert isnt such a bad deal and may even be a good thing. And, after reading this thread, I'm actually thankful for it.

Today Outage had nothing to do with the breach, was a software issue with visa, software upgrade.
