Just got a new insurance with Progressive (switched back after being with State Farm for 2 years), and got a much better rate. Let's hope we won't need to call them for any reason.

I have 100/300 liability limits, but I'm a "what if" type person, always thinking about the worst case scenario. I think it's time to get umbrella coverage. For those who has it, what does it cost and who do you have it with?

How much coverage do you get for $150? I think I will be fine with 1 million.

How is umbrella coverage a scam? If you have assets that exceed your liability limits, it makes sense. If you are a poor, you have nothing to worry about.

I have $1 Million coverage with State Farm for $158/year

You may find that you can only get umbrella coverage from the same insurer as your home (or renter's) insurer.

So, you don't have anything to lose.
Yeah, anyone selling it to you would be scamming you, when you have little in the way of assets.

Got it!

We couldn't get it because my wife is a labor leader. You may want to make sure they ask you about that, because our agent was an incompetent cretin who never posed the question. Only when I got the policy paperwork did I find out that we were ineligible for it. Now I know, of course, but it was her job to qualify us. Other excluded professions I think include police.
