Nearly all the major automakers reported steep sales declines for June, but for General Motors at least there was consolation: Toyota, its leading international competition, had it worse.

But toyota has batter sales world wide and they have alot more capital because of this. GM for instance has been losing sales for sometime and it hurts them more especailly with teh change in driving with teh high price of fuel.Look at GM sales in toher coutries and you will see they didn;t lose money there;so much of the better looking figures mean that GM sales here were getting worse from already bad.

I doubt the people losing their jobs see it as hype. Same for the stockholders losing value.

I like Ed -- a lot.

But you have to keep in mind his job is to put lipstick on this pig. And some of his thinking is about as current as his business mullet haircut.

A bright note in all this, we have finally hit a point where we the people are not as stupid as the corporations making and selling US crap. This is a good thing. When the big trees in the forest fall, it gives chance for new growth from below. May it ever be so. It is about the only time we get any real improvements or social advances.

Actually it is really worse for GM and Ford than they let on because their sales figures include their massive fleet programs which Toyota does not have (most foreign auto makers do not do fleet programs). If you took only dealer to public sales the news would be much worse for GM and Ford.
