From what I have seen you need to be in top physical condition and stay that way. Working on oil rigs is a LOT of very hard work. You really earn your pay. No smokers allowed AFAIK.

Well, this is unskilled labor after all. Not that I have any beef.. the most dangerous jobs should have high pay just to offset the inherent risks.

I'm on an oil rig right now. Most people on an oil rig do make 2000 a week or more, but thats 12 hour days and 7 days a week. Housing is free where i'm at, but you have to buy your own food. Everything is tax deductible since we live at work. The work hands might make slightly less but those of us with pofessional skills make more. Company men, who are in charge of the locations, can make 700 a day. I am a lower level geologist and i make 350 a day. The hands are the only ones who arent on a day rate so i dont get overtime. Most of us work 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. If your interested you should look into becoming a mud engineer or a MWD hand. Those are good paying, high level jobs that only require a few months of training school and no previous expereince required.
