My relative was laid off last June, got seriously ill, and left the US for her home country (that has free medical care). She has stopped paying her credit card bills in July, and she's now starting to receive threatening letters to her US address. I'm sure she'll get sued pretty soon, and I'm trying to find out how I can help her in this situation. She's still recovering from her illness, can't come here anytime soon, and does not plan to work or reside here again...
I would appreciate any advice or tips that could get me started figuring this out.
Thank you in advance...
Well, credit card debt is unsecured - bottom line is she won't get extradited over it. It's bad form, but essentially the CC companies will be stuck with this debt, if I am not mistaken.
Help her by just tossing the mail out! Well no... you two should have already discussed what to do with her mail.
But there is nothing to do and if I were in her shoes I'd be doing the same thing- her own Bailout Program!
