I stayed until the end and held my cat. It was terribly traumatic for me.

With my dog, I couldn't do it. She had a bad stroke. My husband and sister stayed with her. I was too heartbroken. I said my goodbyes, tearfully, and my hubby held her until she died.

Ditto...here here. With my boy kitty of 15 1/2 years (half of which required insulin shots every day, twice a day), I held him in my lap and really, it was a very spiritual experience for us both. He knew it was his time and earlier in the day, when I arrived (I had left him for testing in the a.m.), the vet was in surgery so I got to sit out on their back steps, just the two of us, saying goodbye. With my two others, both dealing with kidney issues, I stayed and held them as they lay on the table, on a towel (separately, and years apart, btw). With my first guy, the ache was less intense because I felt like we really did get to let go--not so with the others. Honestly, I can't imagine leaving them in the room...

Tinman i'm so very sorry. I can tell you when we lost our beloved fur baby bandit (dog) we went with private cremation because we knew eventually we would move out of state and I want to make sure I can take bandit with us. If I remember correctly it was somewhere around $250 for the private cremation.

Tinman and others here I am sorry for your losses.
We opted for the private creamation for Chloe this past Dec. It was $175.00.
Not near as bad as I would have thought. We got her back in a beautiful and I mean beautiful engraved box with her name on it. The ashes are in a Satin bag, and a lovely card from the people that preformed the service. Well worth the money but not at all what I expected. We were going to bury her near the pool which she so dearly loved but now I think I need a mausoleum the box is to nice to bury.

((((((hugs))))))) Tinman

I recently had to put my beloved kitty down as well. I stayed with him until the end although it broke my heart to watch.

As others have mentioned, we went chose the cremation option due to the fact that we might move. Cremation cost us $180 and we received a nice urn and certifacte with it. I have it displayed in the family room with his picture even though some visitors think that is odd. I will move it if and when I am ready.

Thanks too every one for their input it was greatly appreciated.... Looks like shes going too make it! 4+ days on this roller coaster of emotions and a day and half at the vets getting fluids for being so dehydrated and loads of TLC from the staff I guess she used four of her nine lives. Today she started grooming her self again....been 5 days.... shes a site getting every hair back in the right spot. Then she looks at me like "WHAT"!!! Still not eating very much or drinking, I have too give her several very small pills twice a day for the appetite and the virus she got from where ever? The pills are so much fun too give, trying too hold a squirming cat with razor sharp teeth.... my way of a having fun in the morning just before coffee...... I hope this works......... and Thanks again......

Absolutely, the last thing my beloved pet knew or felt was me embracing him/her. That is how I would want to fall into that last, final sleep - knowing I am loved.
