I'll be curious to see if everyone here who received a cheque from Blue Buffalo has it clear the bank.

The only thing I know about Blue Buffalo is that several years ago, my dog got sick on it. Actually both of my dogs (when I had two) wound up with minor bowel problems (diarrhea) while on BB, but Izzy got quite sick once after I purchased a new bag and began feeding it to them. My older dog had minor issues with that particular bag, but she didn't get nearly as sick as Izzy, who was still in puppy stages...he was vomiting and had diarrhea, all of which came on within an hour or two of eating. The next day I googled it and discovered that BB was in the midst of a dog food recall...when I checked the package, the number on it was one of the ones on the recall list. And of course, Izzy was the one who was (is) highly sensitive to certain foods, while Kaya had a cast-iron stomach.

Anyway, it's a food I now avoid, due to the issues my dog(s) had.
I *think* someone I know used my name to submit a claim form. I have yet to confirm my assumption. I'm hoping it was something innocent like they maxed out on their claim but had additional proofs of purchase.
I haven't cashed the check but if it clears I will have to claim it on my tax return.

Oh, I see. I thought it odd that you'd receive a cheque out of the blue without ever having filed a claim.

I'm in Canada...not sure if this would be the sort of thing subject to a tax claim. I suspect it wouldn't be considered income, but could be wrong. (I do know that for lottery winners, Canadians don't have to claim the money on taxes for any money won within Canada.)

Hopefully the cheque will clear for you!
