Wage Tax and a local township tax (Philadelphia: credit, transfer)

Question: I'm considering a transfer with my company, my job would move down to Center City (so I will need to pay the lovely Philly wage tax).

I also pay a 1% local township tax.

do I still have to pay this local township tax if I also have to start paying the Philly wage tax?

Also -- is the Philly wage tax deductible in any way?

You will get a credit toward your 1% local township tax. You can offset your local tax by any amount of wage tax you pay to Philadelphia. However, you cannot generate a local refund using a Philadelphia wage tax credit.

You'll still need to file your local tax return but you indicate on the form the amount of Phila wage tax you've paid.

The Phila wage tax is deductible on your Federal schedule A as an itemized deduction.
