Grrrr... not Philadelphia, but rather the Philadelphia Metro Area. I really wish they would differentiate these.

Exactly. Boston proper would dust Philadelphia proper on personal income.

Why would that even matter? It is always a region that supports different parts of itself.

Most national rankings, statistics, etc are based on MSA, CSA etc. (ie the metro area). So it is already understood. (Other than Best Places to Live type rankings which zero in on very specific areas.) I currently live in metro Atlanta, 25 mi from city center. However I start off with "I live in Atlanta". Within Atlanta, we talk about OTP (outside the perimeter/loop) and ITP (inside the perimeter/loop). Other than that the entire area is "Atlanta"! Each city might think of individual parts of the metro differently. I see the Capgemini report did not see "region", but philly.com did.

In any case, this is good news!

The Philadelphia MSA is also number 6 in population, so it's hardly a coup.

In the top 10 in population, but not on this list -- Dallas, Atlanta, Miami.

So it is a good thing that Philadelphia is on this list!

There are many subjective things (eg. people are rude, ...) one can say about a metro. But there are some hard stats -- wealth and job growth are 2 of them. It looks like Philadelphia and Pennsylvania are doing well in both these departments.
