Hi all,

I'll be relocating to Philadelphia in a few months' time. In an earlier post (here) I got some great advice on the areas I should focus on.

I've decided on allocating my days as followsL
- Jenkintown/Elkins Park/Chestnut hill area - 1 day
- Main Line - 1 day
- Philadelphia city center - 1 day
- South Jersey area - 2 days

I'll try scheduling with local realtors to get a good sense of the area. I'd love some recommendations/referals - by mail would be great as well.

I'd also appreciate any general tips and comments you may have, suggest sightseeing and shopping destinations would be great to.

Many thanks,

Dorian

Well from your other post, it would seem you are interested in possible daycare for your son. For Jenkintown/Elkins Park, take a look at Adath Jeshurun, Beth Sholom, and Keneseth Israel. All have preschool and infant care, very good, I have friends that have had kids in all 3. Look now even if you aren't moving for another few months to make sure you don't need to hold a space for later in the year. In Chestnut Hill, I assume you're looking in West Mount Airy along with CH, look into Germantown Jewish Centre, they have a great preschool/daycare program.

Definitely enjoy Chestnut Hill while you are there, stop in the cute shops, grab something to eat. Its very quaint and charming. When you're in Center City, you can walk around Rittenhouse Square, visit Reading Market. If you like the history of the area, you can visit Old City and take a walking tour or see the Liberty Bell. King of Prussia isn't all that close to your other destinations, but its the major shopping area here, second biggest mall in the country, so it has just about every store under the sun. But I'd say that's something you can visit once you are living here since your time is limited.

Since I see you are spending two days in South Jersey yet working in Cheltenham (not an ideal commute for the areas in consideration in SJ), I'll assume you're considering that area more heavily than others. Make sure as you are testing commutes, that if your week long visit is in the summer, realize that any commute during your visit will be better than what it normally will be. Summer traffic is misleading, September will arrive, reality will hit, kids are back to school, everyone returns from the shore, and traffic gets worse. So, keep that in mind if you test out commutes. The only commute that stays the same is the one on the train.

Have a great visit, I hope you find a place that will work well for your family.
