I am moving to the greater Philly area to work for Crozer Chester medical center, and I am wondering about decent towns for living, preferably within 20 minutes of commute. the hospital is in Chester which is probably not a safe city. Does any one of know safe neighborhoods or nearby cities with good schools? Any help will be appreciated.

There are a number of safe towns near Crozer. Your price point, and the type of home you're looking for, to some extent will dictate which town you should look at. Areas you might consider within 20 minutes of Chester: Wallingford/Swarthmore, Media, Broomall, Havertown, Springfield, Brookhaven, Ridley, Morton. I have them roughly rank ordered in terms of how expensive they are (housing prices + proper taxes), but also I believe this generally represents how the school districts would be ranked. (Ridley and Morton are in the same district, I believe, and I'm honestly not sure how they compare to Brookhaven - which is in the Penn Delco district). Brookhaven will also be closest to Chester.

To help us help you better what kind of housing budget will you be on?

The 2 best school districts in that vacinity are Wallingford-Swarthmore and RoseTree-Media.

Most areas of Media PA would probably be your best choice. I was raised in Media and went to elementary school there too. College and Masters were from Penn and I lived in Newtown Square PA.

20 minutes from Crozier-Chester Med Center would be Media....My Mom worked in the same location as you will and lived in Meida....

I am a new resident of Brookhaven in a neighborhood of little 1960's ranchers. The neighborhood is super-quiet and almost every house is well-maintained with a manicured lawn....reminds me of "Ozzie and Harriet". Many of the residents are older, I think the first or second owners, so it may not be a great neighborhood for kids (to meet other kids). Prices are very reasonable, and I've heard the school district is OK.
