I heard that there is a new Harrah's casino in Chester, PA. Has anyone been? If so, what was it like? Was it very big? Also, are there any other casinos there? I thank you in advance for your answers.

As with most casinos located outside of Nevada, Harrah's Chester and the adjacent Chester Downs racetrack are intended to help revive what is one of the most challenged areas in the Philadelphia region. If the location is convenient enough and you want to make your contribution to the local economy, then it would be worthwhile for you to check it out. However, there is virtually nothing else going on for visitors. In fact, the amount of safe and pleasant surroundings outside the racino are probably limited.

Ditto--

I've been a few times and yes I liked it. It's just like any other casino and no there are no other casinos in that area just that one. If worth checking out to see for yourself.

Default Proud 2 B from Chester!!!!

Chester is a city that is very lucky to be near Philly!

Like many cities in America that is built around Blue collared workers, When industries leave a city or region, so does most of the population. What is left is the poor who cannot leave or the middle class stuck between leaving Chester or taking a risk of failure somewhere else.

I was able to leave Chester, go to college and provide for my family. But I always wanted Chester to shine! Not to be known only as a place full with drug dealers and the poor of Delaware County.

I want people to remember that Chester is a place that taught Martin Luther King to be a Reverend , A place at one time that many Jazz and RnB Singers such as Ray Charles would perform (at The Stone Elephant). A city that brought out athletes like Joe Klecko (NY Jets), John Mobley (Denver Broncos), Kevin Jones (Detroit Lions), Bo Ryan (Wisconsin Badgers Coach), Danny Murtaugh ( Pittsburgh Pirates Coach) and Jameer Nelson ( Orlando Magic).

Chester is a place that deserves change! I'm hoping and praying in 2 to 3 years that the positives about Chester will out weigh the negatives.

Harrahs is the only casino in Chester and its slots only. No table games. Although they do have a bunch of interactive blackjack tables thats pretty much like the real thing. Nice sportsbar and very nice harness track and racing book.

As a former employee of Chester's hometown university, Widener University (nee Pennsylvania Military College), I second this endorsement.

The principal emotion I felt as I wandered around downtown Chester on lunch breaks was sadness, not fear. Here was a strong and vibrant city laid low by deindustrialization.

You could also see what Chester was like in its heyday in the nicer neighborhoods to Widener's immediate north and east. There was some serious money made here, and those who made it built some very fine houses, many of which now house Widener fraternities and sororities, some of which house Widener faculty and students, and a few of which now house social services.

I hope that the city's bets on soccer and gaming pay off in spinoff development. The legalization of table games this year might just help -- I'm not a gambler myself, but Harrah's is generally a class operation (companywide, not just in Chester).

Ditto. I worked for the city for a year. I think north of 95 and south of 95 are two different worlds, though.

The place has great bones and its location is a huge asset but, unfortunately, the leadership in Chester hasn't had much of a clue and as recently as 10 years ago were still chasing smokestacks.

The leveling of the oldest houses in the Delaware Valley in 2002 for the widening of 291 (for "jobs" that never materialized) sickened me and was indicative of their lack of vision for the town - that's ultimately what led to my resignation.
