Not necessarily more people, maybe the same number per square foot, though. The area has a different cross section of society than south street. Everyone is more dressed up than you'd see on South Street, there is less commercialism, and the mood seems more relaxed. Its also more upscale, and people seem less hurried. On South Street, people always seem to be going to or from some bar or restaurant, a band performance, or need to go feed the parking meter. They're not quite rushed, but are just on the edge of being rushed. Rittenhouse Square seems more relaxed, people are in a 'let's just stroll around' frame of mind, leisurely sitting on a park bench, or casually having a drink at one of bars with outdoor seating.

I agree, it is probably the most vibrant area of the city (during the times mentioned, not at night, though), with South Street, Old City and Northern Liberties close

The last part I disagree - Rittenhouse is basically busy everyday and also the most consistently vibrant every night of the week

Are you talking geographical differences? If so, here ya go:

Passyunk Square (just north of East Passyunk Crossing):

* Washington Ave. to Tasker St., Broad St. to 6th St.

East Passyunk Crossing (just south of Passyunk Square):

* Tasker St. to Snyder Ave., Broad St. to 8th St.

That's good to know. I've been there at night one or two times in the recent past, both times it seemed somewhat empty. Maybe it was between the early evening/dinner time crowd and the nightime crowd.

In comparison, I've been their during the day and early evening many, many times.

Hey, Chestnut Hill has a college too. LOL.

I mostly agree, but I've always thought of South St. as the Philly equivalent to Adams Morgan. Manayunk, to me, is more like a Clarendon/Ballston type of place.

these distinctions are irrelevant to a visitor. east passyunk ave is one area for all practical purposes.

Hey Terrence,

I was correcting your errors that's all. So don't get your panties in a twist with your last statement.

Thanks for the geography lesson! I get it now. pman has a good point, though. Parsing the new "boundaries" of East Passyunk Avenue may be more beneficial to realtors than any one else.

LOL Actually I was considering mentioning Chestnut Hill College but there's not exactly a "town & gown" situation going on there.

I see what you mean with your other comparisons. No argument here.

Don't worry about DC Finest, dude must work for the DC chamber of commerce and is a certified Philly hater.

Here are a couple shots of Rittenhouse area. Its very crowded especially when the weather cooperates yet has a tranquil feel to it as "kid" said.
