I am moving to Philly and have been told Manayunk is a good area, I'm in my mid 30's. I want a short commute, going to be near the childrens hosp on erie. Any apartment suggestions? I've been looking on line, craigslist ect but it's tough to get a read on anything. I also need parking since I have two cars.
Thanks!

The only thought I can really add to this is that it will be difficult to find off-street parking in Manayunk, let alone for two cars. Perhaps consider looking at apartment complexes in the West Mount Airy area. I believe many of them have off-street parking. The nightlife, if that's a factor, may be more laid-back compared to Manayunk.

Manayunk is very safe and lively, which is why we are buying a house there. It is surrounded by nice areas: the park, Roxborough, Lower Merion TWP, and East Falls. The most troublesome people you will find there are college students. Parking is sparse though and you will need to do a thorough search to find something with parking. The good thing about street parking in Manayunk is that you don't need a parking permit, so you can park anywhere, but it is still very tight and the hills are STEEP. I would go through a real estate agent. We found that craigslist was not a very good way to search for apartments in the Philly area, there seemed to be a lot of scams on there.

Very good summary of Manayunk!

I've lived there for 10 years and never had a problem. The street where I live is a good mixture of families, senior citizens, singles and college students.

To the OP: You will fit right in with your dogs. Manayunk is filled with people who love dogs. Good luck with your search!

Manayunk is really nice. The only things I would say that are negative are that there are always a ton of college students (with college student issues - lots of evening drunkenness, etc..) and there is NO PARKING. I get my hair cut there and I love the little shops, but it's always a nightmare finding a place to park...and I search residential areas bc I know the place. The other negative is that it's property value is pretty much peaked...so you won't be making any investment that you'll make money on later. It will likely just hold its value.

On the plus side, it's safe, it has a lot to do, and there are plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and stores to browse. It also has a nice view of the water with the canals, a lot of people with pets and a wonderful bike trail.
