My daughter is thinking of attending Temple University next fall. Can anyone give me any info on safety....on and off campus. Also, any insights on the school would be helpful. Thanks

Temple is an outstanding, underrated school, but the surrounding neighborhood is rough. The campus itself is safe; well-lite with security patrols. If your daughter leaves the campus she may want to travel with others.

I ditto all of that. I too went to Temple. The neighborhood surrounding is horrible. Deplorable. I remember on nice days driving with my windows down...but the second I got to a certain point I rolled them up and that was that. And I tried not to look at anybody hanging out on the corners. It is really bad. This is why, even though downtown Temple was closer, I traveled the distance to go to Temple AMbler for as many classes as I could. Much cleaner, safer environment with a different type of people. ANd I am not saying color (in case anyone thinks I am mentioning that)...but you don't have the loud foul mouth screaming 19 year olds acting like they are still in high school.

As long as that Crony Street is Mayor I would be concerned. However, I dont think he has much time left. I long for a day when people will stop blindly voting Democrat. Philly is a city of brainwashed liberals!

I don't necessarily think all Liberal Democrats are bad people. I happen to be one myself, but I'm in favor of a complete overhaul of our state's social services programs. Here in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, we have far too many people who live annually in the projects, take advantage of government programs and handouts, etc.; aren't these programs supposed to be TEMPORARY until one gets back onto his or her feet? I suspect a lot of Philadelphia's criminal element is likewise a burden on the taxpayers; I don't appreciate the fact that I spend nine hours per day lifting refrigerators so some people just a mile away in the projects on Coal Street can sit on their rear-ends watching Oprah at my expense!
If more of these low-lifes who hang around the street corners near Temple had JOBS, then perhaps the city wouldn't have such a horrific reputation for violent crime?
In fact, I think the only thing that makes me "Liberal" is the fact that I support gay civil rights; I don't even condone abortion!
