We've lived in several different neighborhoods and never had the experience you had. Given that you said that you made 6 figures and income wasn't the issue, then why didn't you just move? I would be very surprised if you now claim that your bad experience happened within CC? And if it doesn't you might want to disclose that fact before slamming the city. No?
we did move.... look at my location on the upper right..

He's wondering why you didn't move to a different part of the city.

I think?

I developed a whole new appreciation for Philly after spending a few years in a small Midwest city.
After 15 years in LA & just recently relocating to Atlanta and not visiting Philly for 6 or 7 years I came to greatly appreciate it this past summer after a visit. Philly has it's issues & so does LA, ATL, Detroit, NYC, & many other large cities.. Philly's very underated and not as bad as those who dwell there make it out to be.. I'll start a thread on my recent visits in another forum.

oh.. Well the city wage tax was strangling us.. Car insurance was too. We could buy a large single home outside the city and spend no more overall then living in a same price home within the city. Peace and quiet, safer, cleaner, better services too moving out of the city..

And I, and any other on this board could counter that you'd have to pay the wage tax if you lived outside the city and worked in the city, you need not drive at all or drive very little if you live in the city. C'mon man, you know the arguments city people make against people who love the burbs. Face it, some people on here love the city and want to live here, other people like the suburbs, like yourself. But there's no reason to bash the city simply because you're not a city person. If somebody expresses an interest in living here then maybe you figure they have a different set of values on where they want to live.

You sound like a family man who enjoys his peace, quiet, privacy and conveniences. It seems like suburban living is (and probably always was) the ideal situation for you.

I, on the other hand, crave excitement, a multitude of diverse bars and restaurants, public transportation, a good nightlife scene and easy access to my good-sized network of friends and acquaintances. Obviously, living in your situation in NJ would not work for my lifestyle.

It really comes down to what one wants out of life and in which phase of life one is in.

I don't work in Philly.. And I am not 'bashing' Philly. I am telling about my experiences.. Whether they be good or bad.. Wouldn't you say the a fair thing to do? I also say some good things about the city..

Yeah, I tried this for a year and it's nowhere near the same situation. Again, depending on how often, and for what purposes you want to be in town, I suppose it could work. Certainly didn't work for me though. Driving in, finding parking, watching how much you drink, trying to guage traffic both in and out of the city. It's all such a HUGE hassle, I found myself saying, "Ah, F it. I'll just stay home tonight" more often than naught. For a family man who wants to come in a few times a year for special occassions, it probably works well; but for a younger single person who wants to actually live the city scene, driving in from Jersey on a regular basis, blows.
