For me, it's Penn's Fisher Fine Arts Library:

Fisher Fine Arts Library - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I love it for two reasons- one, it's Frank Furness' masterpiece, and I love him not only for giving Philly an architectural style all its own, but also for deliberately giving a building grace not with lean spires or precipitous steeples or pointymodernism or curviness, but with a certain amount of stony "flub"- the building looks like it could withstand a siege without a scratch.

Two, I went to Penn, and if there is any place in the world more like Hogwarts on the inside, I still haven't found it...

Default Philly's most famous building

The most famous building in Philadelphia is the former Pennsylvania State House, now known as "Independence Hall". I think only one person in this thread described it as their favorite building in Philadelphia ...

By "favorite" I mean buildings from the standpoint of beauty and architecture; so please don't say 'my grandma's house in Fishtown because she bakes the best cookies' or 'the PNC bank branch in Fitler Square because my bank account is there' and be prepared to defend your choice.

Is it ...

- The Comcast Center

- One Liberty Place

- Independence Hall

- The Art Museum

- The former Divine Lorraine Hotel

- The Greyhound Bus Terminal

- City Hall

- 30th Street Station

... inquiring minds want to know!
Definitely City Hall and the 30th St Station.

I really like the buildings that made up Philadelphia's skyline before the 60s although some of the newer towers are pretty cool too.

Yep, two more

Love that picture of City Hall courtyard! If you Photoshopped out the office buildings in the background, you'd think it was a picture of a French castle.

Now that the ugly two story retail block across the street from the old Reading Terminal on Market Street one can stand back and admire the Reading Terminal in all it's salmon pink and cream splendor. It really is an amazing building!

You have certainly seen the great historic wall drawing of the Reading Terminal Headhouse right inside the front door of the Market.

And, people, I road Reading trains,to towns in Bucks Co,back in late 60s/early 70s, when it was a station.

My favorite Phila. Bldg is the PSFS(Loews Hotel)) bldg. As a kid I was blown away when I learned when it was built and how old it is. It looked so modern to me. It still does.

This may have already been mentioned in this thread, but my favorite building is the U.S. Customs House at 2nd and Chestnut. I refer to it as the Ghostbusters building. (Yes, I know that Ghostbusters was not filmed anywhere near Philly; I just think the building resembles the gothic monstrosity in the movie.) It's gorgeous!

A brand new building opened on Penn's campus on Walnut Street called the Krishna Singh Nanotechnology Center ... very glassy and modern.
