My biggest problem with "The Burgh" is that it is in a completely different climate zone ... the winters there are so much colder than Philly. And ... they get a lot more snow in Pittsburgh.
You really could tell that by these last few year the entire NE has been pretty much in the same boat.....COLD Snowy and miserable.....

Ah, Pittsburgh. Land of the Yinzers.

Where is the option for, "I used to live an hour or so away, so, yes, I am very familiar with you weirdos. I only went up there when a good act came to the Improv, to waste time at Dave and Buster's, to use an airport, and to watch WVU beat the hell out of Pitt. It's a rather boring and useless city, otherwise. And even if it wasn't, I'd never admit it."

'Cause that's me.

LMAO ... That's pretty much my observance as well, after living here 5 years and getting blank stares when I talk about other parts of Pennsylvania I've lived in or visited, or *gulp* even further west.

Many of the folks I know who are natives of Philadelphia (my spouse included, when I first met him and before I dragged him off to remote wildernesses like Cleveland and Cincinnati) have been to New York, New Jersey, the Poconos, and maybe the Delaware or Maryland shore or Washington. Naturally I'm exaggerating ... just a tad ...

Occasionally, I've even gotten weird stares when talking about Berks County, where I grew up.

"You mean Bucks county?"

"No..Berks County"

That said, Western PA seems like a whole different country to me. In fact, I don't think I've ever considered myself a Pennsylvanian. I think of myself as a Philadelphian and Pennsylvania is just the state my hometown happens to be in.

Other than a single solitary trip to Pittsburgh (and I traveled from DC, not Philly), the farthest west I've ever been in Pennsylvania is the Valley Forge Convention Center.
i once went to lancaster co. for a weekend. that was plenty.

Default Pittswhere?

Get one thing straight, any self respecting Philadelphian can't give two craps about Pittsburgh. Philly cats only drive East to Wildwood NJ, never go West. Especially 6 hours away, give me a break!

Until recently I had always lived either in Philadelphia or not far from it. I think I might have been to Pittsburgh once when I was a very young child, but I'm not sure about that. (I have no memories of it, but think it's something I might have heard discussed.) Otherwise, no, I've never been there, though one of my nephews lives there now.

Hmm...the interesting thing here is that I'm originally from Michigan....larger Metro Detroit area.

It's six hours from Detroit to Pittsburgh. I think you'd find very few MI people who've thought about it either though.

Sounds like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are also six hours apart. Kinda interesting.
