I always agree with you Clark but when kids are involed, the city schools just can't compare to the offerings and opportunities in the Philly and Sj burbs. With a 600 million dollar short fall on the city schools budget, I doubt you will get any more extracurricular activities. Mostly all of the NJ schools budgets right outside of Philly (Collingswood, Haddon Twp, Oaklyn) have all passed last week even with Governor Christies destruction of public education. That means sports (and plenty of fields to play them on), plays, field trips, clubs and everything else that the schools in Philly just can't offer...even the charters. My friend in S. Philly just moved to haddon heights with her 15 y/o daughter and wishes she did it years ago just for the schools. The LGBT enviornment in Collingswood as I said before, is certainly well established...especially for the gals.

What kind of things would possibly indicate Swarthmore and Media as being LGBT friendly? I'd never noticed anything. I was under the impression it was a "more typical Republican conservative" area, but I would not really know.

What??! No way man. Swarthmore is a liberal area. Swarthmore college is ranked as one of the most liberal thinking colleges in the U.S. Ranking of the Most Liberal Colleges in the U.S.
Media is also has a progressive vibe, but on the whole is probably more moderate as you'd be likely to find folks from all political backgrounds.

You would love the Yardley to New Hope corridor in Bucks County (including Newtown and Washington's Crossing)...and as someone mentioned above, Lamberville NJ is very cool.

Media, Swarthmore, Mt. Airy, New Hope and West Germantown have long been known to accomodate a diverse group of people. Many of my LGBT freinds from largely Republican PA choose to live in those areas. The Italian neighborhoods of S. Philly are increaseing their LGBT population but...back to the schools. Your best bet with kids is in the suburbs mentioned. Your closest alternative may still be Collingswood.
