Hi Guys,

I am going to move to Malvern,pa from a small town Plano,TX and probably I'will be working that place.
I'd like to hear from you guys what place (safe, close to my job, close to restaurants, grocery, transportation etc) I can consider to live in with my wife ( wife not working & no kids yet).
Which is the safest area there to take an Apartment rental ?
[ my budget $800-$1000 per month ]

I really appreciate comments on that.

Thanks

A few nearby areas you can checkout with lots of apartment choices would be:
1.West Chester,West Goshen,Westtown
2.Exton
3.Malvern,Paoli,Devon,Frazier

Its a fairly expensive area around Malvern so expect rent to be $1000 ^ for the nicer complexes.

Good luck.

Check out the Regional Rail line that goes through Malvern...
SEPTA | Clickable Regional Rail & Rail Transit Map
I'm most familiar with the western stops on the "R5" line which goes to Thorndale (upper left corner). I wouldn't recommend going further west from there, for commuting and safety issues. Wouldn't recommend Overbrook for the same reason. I don't know it first hand but it has a reputation for being a rough area.

Will your wife have a car? If not, then stops on the R5 from Paoli to Haverford will give her the opportunity to walk to shops and restaurants. It's a great area - enjoy!!

Phoenixville is not as nice as Malvern, but it's a more affordable and not bad. I would definitely consider it safe. It's a nice little town.

As far as shopping malls go, King of Prussia (10-15 minutes from Malvern) has the second largest shopping mall in the US. There are many other local malls as well.

Plano is by no means a small town, but more like a big, overgrown sunbelt suburb. Pretty with a ton of new construction...

I recently moved from Dallas to downtown Philly and love it. I hope you will enjoy living in Philly's western suburbs. From what I have read, a lot of those communities are really great place to live and raise a family. A colleague of mine here lives in Phoenixville and another in Paoli. Phoenixville used to be famous for its Phoenix Iron and Steel Works, a major mill back in the day. Now, the town has rehabbed/redeveloped the mill and the area nearby into a fun new central community. It's also near Valley Forge, which is nice.
